Stuart Read is a Reader in Disability Studies and Inclusion Research at Bath Spa University's School of Education. A disabled academic and activist, his work focuses on disability advocacy, inclusive practices, and equity in education and healthcare. He co-leads the Centre of Research into Equity, Inclusion and Community (CREIC) and chairs the School of Education Ethics Panel.

His research explores disability inclusion, stigma reduction, and accessibility in higher education and healthcare. Notable projects include the Wellcome Trust-funded 'We Are The People' initiative and an AHRC Impact Accelerator Award on cultural heritage accessibility for people with learning disabilities. He also investigates pandemic impacts on disabled students and rural/coastal community inequalities through collaborations with Dr. Anne Parfitt.
Key themes include personhood narratives for individuals with profound learning disabilities, ethical research methodologies, and policy advocacy. His work bridges academic research with grassroots activism to drive systemic change. Stuart actively supervises postgraduate students in disability studies and inclusion.
Grants led/co-investigated include SRHE pandemic education funding, Bristol/Bath Creative R&D grants, and Nuffield Foundation projects on primary science education.
As CREIC Research Centre Lead, Stuart fosters interdisciplinary collaboration on equity and inclusion. His lab's outputs include over 20 peer-reviewed articles, commissioned reports, and policy briefs on topics like reasonable adjustments in healthcare and inclusive university practices.
