Stuart Green is a Distinguished Professor of Law at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He has held visiting positions at institutions including the Universities of Glasgow, Melbourne, Michigan, and Tel Aviv, the Australian National University, the London School of Economics, and Louisiana State. He earned his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his law degree from Yale Law School. His work focuses on criminal law theory, sexual offenses, and white-collar crime, with a particular emphasis on reconciling individual rights and legal frameworks.
Green’s research explores the philosophical and normative foundations of criminal law. His notable publications include Criminalizing Sex: A Unified Liberal Theory (2020), which addresses the balance between sexual autonomy and protection from harm, and Thirteen Ways to Steal a Bicycle: Theft Law in the Information Age (2012). He is currently working on an advanced introduction to criminal law theory and a fourth volume on homicide law as part of his series examining the criminal law’s special part.
