Stuart Candy is an Assistant Professor in the Strategic Foresight & Innovation Program at OCAD University and co-founder of Situation Lab (sLab). His work bridges foresight, design, and transmedia storytelling through Experiential Futures projects, which have been deployed globally in contexts ranging from Burning Man to UN summits. Previously, he held a tenure-track professorship at OCAD U (2013–16) and led strategic foresight for Arup in Australasia, advising Singapore’s 2030 sustainability plan.
Educated at the University of Melbourne (BA Law, BSc HPS) and University of Hawaii (MA/PhD Political Science), Candy has taught at MIT Media Lab, Stanford, Duke, and others. His research focuses on systemic design methodologies and pre-competitive innovation, with projects like the Museum of Future Government Services (UAE) and the Thing From The Future card game (winner of APF’s Most Significant Futures Work award).
Key collaborations include the UNDP, CDC, Sydney Opera House, and Elections Ontario. He co-directs sLab, which has advised over 50 organizations worldwide and pioneered immersive futures tools. His work emphasizes participatory processes, as seen in Melbourne’s digital strategy co-creation and Oxford’s institutional foresight initiatives.
