Stuart Ashenden

Dr Stuart Ashenden serves as Faculty Operating Officer for the Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Greenwich, appointed in January 2013. Previously, he held progressive academic and leadership roles including Acting Dean of Engineering (2012-2013), Director of Academic Planning at Medway (2006-2012), and Principal Lecturer in the School of Engineering since 1989.

He earned a Mechanical Engineering degree followed by a PhD specializing in bulk materials handling and multi-phase flow.

His research expertise focuses on bulk materials handling systems, multi-phase flow dynamics, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. As an educator, he developed curriculum in fluid mechanics and bulk solids handling, with early research contributing to industrial applications in materials transport. His work bridges theoretical fluid dynamics with practical engineering solutions for granular material systems.
