Stewart Motha

Professor Stewart Motha teaches at Birkbeck Law School, University of London, specializing in sovereignty, postcolonial justice, and environmental law. His research analyzes law's relationship with historical violence and ecological crises.

Research: Works like Archiving Sovereignty examine how law preserves colonial violence through archival mechanisms. Current projects critique conceptualizations of 'nature' in climate litigation and environmental governance.

He hosts the COUNTERSIGN podcast, exploring law and plural existence through interdisciplinary dialogues. As former Executive Dean (2016-2022) and Managing Editor of Law & Critique, he promotes critical legal scholarship.
