Steven W. Chen is Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and William A. and Josephine A. Heeres Chair in Community Pharmacy at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. He serves as Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Titus Family Department of Clinical Pharmacy and chairs this department. Dr. Chen received his PharmD from USC and completed a USC-affiliated residency in 1990 before joining the USC faculty in 1998.
Dr. Chen's research focuses on Comprehensive Medication Management, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Chronic Disease Management across conditions including diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, dyslipidemia, and obstructive airway diseases. His work emphasizes demonstrating the value of advanced practice pharmacist services within healthcare systems, particularly in safety net clinics serving vulnerable populations.
Dr. Chen has been recognized with numerous honors including multiple Pinnacle Awards from the American Pharmacists Association, Best Practices Awards from ASHP, and the CSHP Pharmacist of the Year award. His work with the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services contributed to saving 87,000 lives, reducing 2.1 million patient harms, and generating $19.8 billion in cost savings.

He oversees clinical services at 19 safety net community clinics in Southern California, supervising teams of pharmacists, residents, students, and technicians.
