Steven Stuij is an Assistant Professor in Private Law at the Faculty of Law of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He holds an LL.M. from Erasmus School of Law and defended his PhD thesis on the maxim iura novit curia in relation to foreign law application in civil proceedings. His research focuses on private international law, comparative law, and obligations law. He participates in the 'Public Contracts, Law and Governance' research program and reviews for the Tijdschrift voor de Procespraktijk.
Education: LL.M. (Erasmus University Rotterdam), PhD (2021, Erasmus School of Law). Previous affiliations include Maastricht University and T.M.C. Asser Institute.
Teaching includes courses on Obligations Law, Contract Law, and thesis supervision. He received the van Calker Scholarship (2011) and engages in editorial and peer review activities. His work spans legal interpretation, cross-border enforcement, and European legal frameworks.
