Steven Stowell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History at Concordia University. He received his doctorate from Oxford University in 2009 and holds a BFA and MA from Queen's University, Kingston. Previously, he held a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto.
His research focuses on devotional experiences and ritual uses of sacred images, intersections between art and language, and relationships between art and cultural discourses on gender and sexuality. Current projects explore anthropological approaches to Renaissance art through themes of fertility, chastity, and healing.
