Steven Reinhart

Steven Reinhart is a Lecturer in the Liberal Arts Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He teaches FYS II: Subversion: Intro to Postcolonial Theory, a writing-intensive seminar focusing on foundational postcolonial theorists like Aimé Césaire, Frantz Fanon, and Edward Said. His research interests explore the intersections of postcolonial theory with anti-colonial, Black radical, Afropessimist, feminist, and Marxist frameworks.

The course examines how colonial histories shape contemporary power dynamics and conceptualizes freedom through decolonial thought. Reinhart emphasizes writing as a tool for subversion, integrating freewriting exercises and formal essay revisions to develop critical and expressive writing skills.
