Steven R. Evans is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Maine, affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. He coordinates the New Writing Series and serves as Administrative Director of the National Poetry Foundation. Evans received his PhD from Brown University (2000) and BA from UC San Diego (1988). His research focuses on contemporary poetry, critical theory, modernism, and avant-garde studies. He teaches advanced courses on poetics, critical theory, and literary analysis.

Evans’ current project explores phonotextuality in recorded poetry, bridging literary analysis with sound studies. He has held leadership roles in campus-wide initiatives, including the University Research Council and Maine Arts Commission.
