Dr Steven Okoli is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College, London and a Consultant Haematologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. His roles include sub-specialty lead for the North West London NIHR Clinical Research Network and adult stem cell transplant lead for sickle cell disease. He specializes in sickle cell disease, thalassaemia, and rare anaemias, with a focus on translational research and clinical trials.
- Completed haematology training at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals
- Research Fellowship at the Weatherall Institute, Oxford studying rare anaemias
- PhD (Imperial College, 2016) on epigenetic mechanisms of G6PD activity
Research interests center on genetic modifiers of haemoglobinopathies, novel therapies, and genotype-phenotype correlations in haematological disorders. He leads the Imperial College Sickle Cell Group and advises the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust. His clinical trials include INHERENT and the NIHR BioResource Rare Disease programme.
Academically, he teaches on the Haematology BSc course at Imperial College and actively mentors early-career researchers in clinical research methodologies.
