Steven M Smith

Steven M Smith is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. He holds a courtesy appointment in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine (College of Medicine) and co-directs the Center for Integrative Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease. His research focuses on improving cardiovascular pharmacotherapy, particularly hypertension and cardiometabolic disease, leveraging observational methods and real-world data. Key areas include resistant hypertension, prescribing cascades, and drug safety. Funded by the NHLBI and DoD, his work addresses disparities in antihypertensive prescribing and cardiovascular outcomes.

Publications & Grants: Over 200 peer-reviewed articles in Hypertension, Circulation, and Journal of the American Heart Association. Active grants include studies on minocycline for resistant hypertension (NHLBI), antihypertensive prescribing cascades (NIH), and the WARRIOR trial (DoD).
