Steven L. Baumann

Steven L. Baumann is a Professor at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY). He holds certifications as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner. His career spans over three decades at Hunter College and over 15 years at CUNY Graduate Center.

Dr. Baumann’s research focuses on improving safety and health outcomes for older adults with opioid use disorders through telehealth and medication-assisted treatment. He also contributes to global health research by editing international papers for Nursing Science Quarterly.

He has received the NIMHD Scholar award for his work in translational health disparities research (2015). His current collaboration with Hudson River Healthcare examines chronic conditions in aging opioid users.

As a behavioral health nurse practitioner at Sun River Health and a column editor since 2005, Dr. Baumann bridges clinical practice and academic scholarship. He actively involves students in research and policy initiatives.
