About
Dr. Steven Kregel is an Assistant Professor in Cancer Biology at the Loyola University Chicago. His research focuses on prostate cancer biology, particularly targeting the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway and the tumor immune microenvironment. He holds a BS in Biological Chemistry and BAs in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Chicago, followed by an MS and PhD in Cancer Biology from the same institution. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Prostate Cancer Biology at the University of Michigan. His lab is funded by the Prostate Cancer Foundation to develop immunocompetent mouse models for studying metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). These models aim to investigate immune system interactions with AR-targeted therapies and hormone resistance mechanisms. Key research areas include AR signaling, therapeutic resistance, and the role of SOX2 in metabolic reprogramming.
Dr. Kregel's work integrates genetics, genomics, and translational medicine to address challenges in prostate cancer treatment. His lab explores novel therapeutic strategies, such as AR degraders and BET bromodomain inhibitors, and investigates mechanisms of resistance to standard-of-care therapies. He collaborates on projects involving deep neural networks for cancer discovery and SARS-CoV-2 entry factor regulation.
