Dr. Steven Edward Martin is a Clinical Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Sydney and JL Huffines Institute for Sports Medicine and Human Performance at Texas A&M University. He holds a B.S. in Exercise Science from The Ohio State University (1994), and both an M.S. (1998) and Ph.D. in Kinesiology from Texas A&M (2008). His expertise spans clinical exercise physiology, cardiovascular stress testing, and health promotion for first responders.
Research interests focus on exercise-induced lipid metabolism and cardiovascular disease risk reduction, particularly in firefighters and police officers. He has led numerous health assessment projects for local fire/police departments since 2011, investigating cardiometabolic risk factors and fitness metrics.
- Developed the FitLife program to improve first responder wellness
- Authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles on firefighter health, exercise physiology, and body composition
- Recipient of the 2012 Teacher of the Year Award (Kinesiology Division)
Teaching responsibilities include courses in cardiovascular stress testing, electrocardiography, and clinical exercise evaluation. He currently serves as President of the Texas Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (2023).
