Steven E. Kangas is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art History at Dartmouth College. He specializes in archaeology, particularly focusing on prehistoric art, symbolism and ritual in the Neolithic period of the Near East, and archaeological excavation in Israel.
- Education: B.A. from University of Arizona, Ph.D. from Brandeis University
His academic work bridges art history and field archaeology. He has co-authored publications on Assyrian reliefs and Neolithic mortuary sites in Galilee. Kangas teaches courses spanning ancient art, Egyptian and Near Eastern studies, and Roman Palestine archaeology.
