Steven Berenson is an Adjunct Professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law and currently serves as an Administrative Law Judge with the California Department of Social Services. His academic career includes 17 years as a full-time law professor, during which he taught courses such as Legal Ethics, Family Law, Legal Research and Writing, Elder Law, and Remedies.
He founded and directed the Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, demonstrating a commitment to practical legal education and community service. Berenson has authored three law school textbooks and approximately 30 law review articles and shorter pieces, focusing on legal ethics, family law, and the legal profession. Before academia, he worked as an Assistant Attorney General in Massachusetts, specializing in administrative and constitutional litigation and consumer protection enforcement.
His research interests span legal ethics, family law reform, elder law advocacy, and the intersection of legal education with clinical practice. The Veterans Legal Assistance Clinic he established highlights his dedication to providing legal support to veterans while training law students in real-world advocacy.
