Steven Aiken

Dr. Steven Aiken is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Health. His research focuses on auditory electrophysiology, particularly how brainstem and cortical responses to speech and music relate to speech intelligibility, with an emphasis on hearing aid processing effects. He teaches courses including CMSD 5120 (Hearing Measurement), CMSD 5130 (Audiology/Speech Pathology), and CMSD 6380 (Electrophysiological Audiometric Measures).

Dr. Aiken’s expertise includes speech-evoked responses, binaural processing, and noise-induced hearing loss. His work bridges clinical audiology with neurophysiological mechanisms, aiming to improve objective hearing assessment and hearing aid optimization. Notably, he received the 2014 President’s Award from the Canadian Academy of Audiology for outstanding contributions to the field.
