Steven Abel

Dr Steven Abel is an Associate Professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Leeds, with a joint role as Science Lead in the Atmospheric Processes and Parametrizations group at the Met Office. His research focuses on leveraging observational data to study atmospheric processes and improve parameterizations of aerosols, clouds, and precipitation in weather and climate models.

  • BSc (Hons) in Physics with Astrophysics (University of Birmingham, 2001)

His expertise spans cloud microphysics, mixed-phase cloud systems, aerosol-cloud interactions, and airborne atmospheric measurements. He has led numerous UK and international airborne field experiments, emphasizing observational rigor and model development.
