Steve Vacchi is Professor of Bassoon and Chamber Music and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. He holds a DMA from Louisiana State University, an MMus from The Hartt School, and a BMus from the Eastman School of Music, where he graduated with high distinction and a Performer’s Certificate. His research focuses on winds, bassoon technique, chamber music, and performance practice.
He maintains an active performance career as a member of the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, Oregon Bach Festival, and Oregon Wind Quintet, and has performed with major orchestras globally. Vacchi specializes in new music, having premiered 170 works and performed over 530 contemporary compositions.

Vacchi’s discography includes 32 recordings spanning Baroque to contemporary repertoire. He has presented masterclasses internationally and served as a sabbatical replacement at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music.
