Steve Summerskill

Dr. Steve Summerskill is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for Product Design & Technology at Loughborough University's School of Design and Creative Arts. He holds a BSc in Industrial Design and Technology, an MSc in Ergonomics, and a PhD in Vehicle HMI design, all from Loughborough University. His career spans consultancy, research, and academia, with over 15 years of experience in design ergonomics and vehicle safety.

Research interests include applying ergonomics and digital human modeling to improve vehicle design, particularly in road and rail transportation. Notably, his work on driver vision in Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) influenced new European safety standards. He consults through SAMMIE CAD, collaborating with industry leaders like Honda R&D, Jaguar Land Rover, and Transport for London.

Prior roles include a Research Associate position under Prof. Mark Porter and consultancy for Wincor Nixdorf and Lloyds Bank. His expertise bridges industrial design, human factors, and safety engineering.
