Steve Striffler is Professor of Labor Studies and Anthropology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he also serves as Director of the Labor Resource Center. A leading scholar in labor history, Latin American studies, and the global food system, Striffler has authored and edited numerous books and articles that critically examine labor movements, immigration, human rights, and corporate power in the Americas.

Research Interests:
Striffler's research spans labor history, Latin American studies, immigration, human rights, and anthropology. He has conducted extensive ethnographic and archival work on labor movements in the Americas, the global food industry, and corporate concentration. His work critically examines the intersections of labor, migration, and leftist politics, with a particular focus on solidarity movements between the US and Latin America.
Publications & Scholarly Contributions:
Striffler is the author of Solidarity: Latin America and the US Left in the Era of Human Rights (2019), Chicken: The Dangerous Transformation of America’s Favorite Food (2005), and In the Shadows of State and Capital: United Fruit, Popular Struggle, and Agrarian Restructuring in Ecuador, 1900-1995 (2002). He has also co-edited several volumes including Working in the Big Easy: The History and Politics of Labor in New Orleans (2014) and The Ecuador Reader: History, Culture, Politics (2009). His recent work includes critical analyses of food activism, labor environmentalism in Colombia, and the impacts of corporate concentration in the global food system.
Current Projects:
He is currently co-editing Labor in 21st Century Boston: The Fight for Economic Justice (with Aviva Chomsky), expected in 2020. His ongoing research continues to explore the intersections of labor, migration, and social justice in the Americas.
