Steve Rothberg

Professor Steve Rothberg serves as Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Manchester Metropolitan University since January 2023, overseeing strategic academic planning and regional engagement. Previously, he held senior roles at Loughborough University, including Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Dean of Engineering. He earned his BSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southampton's Institute of Sound and Vibration Research.

His research focuses on vibration measurement techniques, particularly using laser Doppler vibrometry for rotors, noise control in machinery, and energy harvesting systems. He pioneered innovations in engineering education, including the creation of a teaching excellence center at Loughborough. His work on sports equipment design (golf, tennis) bridges mechanical engineering and human perception.
