Steve Cole

Steve Cole is a Professor of Medicine and Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine. His research focuses on the molecular pathways through which social and environmental factors influence human, viral, and tumor genomes, integrating epidemiology, clinical research, and molecular biology.

• Ph.D. in Psychology, Stanford University (1993)
• Post-doctoral fellowship in psycho-neuro-immunology at UCLA (5 years)

Research interests span functional genomics in social/behavioral contexts, neural influences on gene expression, and the role of transcription factors in mediating psychological states. His work has identified mechanisms by which social factors affect HIV-1/HHV-8 replication, immune gene expression (IL6, IFNB), and cancer metastasis.
