Steve Best

Steve Best is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), affiliated with the College of Liberal Arts. His research focuses on Critical Social Theory, Philosophical Activism, Environmental Philosophy, and Animal Rights. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin (1993), M.A. from the University of Chicago (1987), B.A. from the University of Illinois (1983), and A.A. from College of DuPage (1979).

His publications include edited anthologies like Inclusive Democracy (2007) and Igniting a Revolution (2006), monographs on animal rights and political theory, and articles in journals like AI and Society. Courses taught include online offerings in Philosophy, Ethics, and Social Philosophy, along with graduate independent studies and thesis supervision.

His work bridges theoretical inquiry and activist praxis, addressing issues like biotechnology ethics, environmental justice, and democratic challenges in contemporary society. He is based in Worrell Hall, UTEP.
