Steve Bachofer

Dr. Steve Bachofer is a faculty member at the School of Science of Saint Mary’s College of California, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Brown University (1983) and a B.S. from the University of the Pacific (1979).

His research spans four major areas: Surfactant Chemistry (micelle formation, counterion binding), Electrochemical Measurements (probing micelle structure), XRF Instrumentation (metal quantification in soils), and Chemical Education (field sampling methods as teaching tools). Recent publications focus on surfactant thermodynamics and XRF integration into chemistry labs.

He has served as a Visiting Researcher at Rutgers University (2010) and Co-Director of the SENCER Center for Innovation (2008–present). His work combines experimental studies (NMR, conductivity, fluorescence) with environmental and educational applications.
