About
Stephen Wilson is Vice Dean for Research at University College London's Faculty of Life Sciences and holds the Chair of Developmental Genetics. His work focuses on zebrafish developmental genetics, brain asymmetry, and vertebrate forebrain development.
Education
- B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in Biological Sciences, University of Leicester (1984)
- PhD in Neurobiology, University of London (1988)
Research Interests
His research explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying brain asymmetry and lateralised circuitry, with zebrafish as a key model organism. He investigates how these developmental processes contribute to functional neural networks and behavior.
Professional Affiliations
- Elected member of EMBO (European Molecular Biology Organization)
- Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (UK)
Scientific Awards and Service
- Remedios Caro Almela Prize in Developmental Neurobiology (2009)
- EMBO Plenary lecture (2011)
- Deputy Editor in Chief of the journal 'Development' (2011)
Funding
- Wellcome Discovery Award (2022-2030): Brain asymmetry research with Isaac Bianco
- MRC Programme Grant (2020-2025): Eye formation abnormalities research with Gaia Gestri
- Wellcome Trust Investigator Award (2015-2021): Brain asymmetry mechanisms
