About
Stephen F. Matter is an Associate Professor at the University of Cincinnati's Department of Biological Sciences. His research examines spatial population dynamics, metapopulation ecology, and climate change impacts on alpine insect populations, particularly Parnassius smintheus butterflies.
Matter's work combines field experiments, long-term monitoring, and modeling to understand how landscape changes and climate variability affect population persistence. He has received funding from NSF, National Geographic, and other organizations for his alpine ecology research.
He teaches ecology, data analysis, and environmental science courses and has received teaching excellence awards.
