Stephen Mangum is currently the Dean and Stokely Foundation Leadership Chair at the University of Tennessee's Haslam College of Business. Previously, he held senior roles at Ohio State University, including Senior Associate Dean, Professor, and Chair of the Department of Management and Human Resources. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington University (1984), an M.S. in Human Resource Management, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Utah.
His research focuses on labor economics, employment policies, business education reform, and nonstandard employment relationships. Notable works include studies on comparable worth, temporary employment dynamics, and the transferability of military training. He has co-authored numerous books and articles on topics ranging from MBA program effectiveness to urban economic development.
Mangum's sponsored projects include an NSF I-Corps proposal (2020–2025) focused on innovation commercialization, though it was not funded.
