Stephen Macedo is the Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Politics and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University, and Chair of the Tanner Lectures on Human Values Committee. He specializes in political theory, ethics, and law, with a focus on liberalism, democracy, citizenship, diversity, civic education, and issues of religion, family, and sexuality. His work bridges theoretical analysis and public policy, advocating for same-sex marriage, monogamy, and inclusive civic engagement.
He has held leadership roles, including Director of the University Center for Human Values (2001–2009) and founding director of Princeton’s Program in Law and Public Affairs (1999–2001). He co-authored the Princeton Principles on Universal Jurisdiction and chairs the American Political Science Association’s Civic Education and Engagement committee.
