Stephen Linder

Stephen Linder is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Health Policy at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. He served as Associate Director of the Health Policy Institute at the Texas Medical Center and holds additional affiliations as an Associate Faculty Member at the Center for Humanities and Ethics at the McGovern School of Medicine.

• Education: Doctorate in Political Science from the University of Iowa.
• Career: Previously held faculty appointments at UCLA and Tulane University.

Research focuses on community-based health needs and cumulative risk characterization, including leadership in initiatives like the Health of Houston Survey (Principal Investigator) and the Healthy Cities Research Hub (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation). Current roles involve directing the US of Global Cities Changing Diabetes program (Novo Nordisk) and co-leading the Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health. Active in non-profit governance, including chairs at Mental Health America of Greater Houston and advisory roles at the Texas Environmental Research Consortium and BridgeUp at Menninger Clinic.

Teaching accolades include the Minnie Stevens Piper Professor award and UTHealth Kenneth I. Shine Academy of Health Science Education Fellowship. Affiliated with the Center for Health Systems Research, Policy, and Practice.
