Stephen Kramer

Stephen Kramer serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Center for Earth and Environmental Science at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh within the School of Arts and Sciences, while concurrently holding the position of Director of Lab Studies at the W.H. Miner Institute in Chazy, New York. His dual appointment enables him to teach Agriculture and the Environment (ENV440) through the Miner Institute and Introduction to Environmental Science (ENV101) at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Kramer's research centers on agricultural environmental systems with emphasis on nutrient dynamics in tile-drained landscapes. He leads multiple funded Edge of Field projects quantifying nitrogen and phosphorus export pathways from agricultural fields under varying management practices. This work addresses critical water quality challenges in the Lake Champlain Basin where extensive tile drainage networks exist, with implications spanning environmental sustainability, agricultural economics, and rural community resilience.

As an educator, Kramer has developed an advanced STEM-focused high school chemistry program serving local juniors and seniors. His teaching integrates field-based environmental science with practical agricultural applications, emphasizing real-world problem solving in regional watershed management.

Currently serving as principal investigator on agricultural nutrient management grants, Kramer directs laboratory operations at the Miner Institute while facilitating collaborative research between academic programs and farming communities. His applied science approach bridges academic instruction with on-the-ground environmental stewardship initiatives across northern New York.
