Stephen Kleps is an Associate Teaching Professor and Associate Chair of Undergraduate Affairs in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD (2013), M.S. (2003), and B.S. (2002) in Civil Engineering from IIT. His research focuses on construction site improvisation during disruptions, best practices in estimating techniques, and construction contract analysis. He is affiliated with ASCE, SEI, AISC, and ASSE.
Research Interests: Investigating how construction foremen adapt to disruptions, optimizing digital estimating tools, and linking contract language to project outcomes. Expertise includes forensic engineering (structural damage analysis, vibration analysis, construction defects) and construction safety standards (OSHA compliance, multi-employer site regulations).
Publications include work on estimating technologies (2012) and improvisation in construction (2013). Active in professional organizations, he teaches courses related to construction management and safety. Office: Alumni Memorial Hall 203C.
