Stephen Kirsch

Dr. Stephen Kirsch serves as a guest lecturer at the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine, offering courses on Substance Use Disorders and Global Health. He holds an MD from Upstate Medical University (1993), an MPH from the University of Southern Maine (2018), and a BA in Biology from College of the Holy Cross (1988).

His research interests focus on substance use disorders, global health interventions, and primary care medicine. He has practiced primary care in Portland, ME, for over 30 years and contributed to Opioid Use Disorder treatment via Groups: Recover Together. Clinical experience includes international medical trips to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Professional roles include Medical Consultant at Unum Insurance (long-term disability division) and teaching at the Maine Medical Center Family Practice Residency. He volunteers at the Portland Community Free Clinic.
