Stephen Hsu

Stephen Hsu is a Professor in the Department of Oral Biology at the Dental College of Georgia, Augusta University, with a concurrent appointment in The Graduate School. Currently serving as Interim Promotion and Tenure Chair, Dr. Hsu maintains active roles in academic governance across multiple institutional levels.

His educational credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Cell/Cellular Biology and Histology from the University of Cincinnati (1991)
• M.A. in Molecular Biology from Montclair State University (1985)
• B.S. in Biochemistry from Wuhan University (1982)

Dr. Hsu's research program focuses on translational applications of green tea polyphenols, particularly EGCG-palmitate nanoparticles, for antiviral and antimicrobial purposes. His work spans virucidal formulations for disinfectants, antiviral mechanisms against SARS-CoV-2/norovirus, and potential interventions for autoimmune disorders like Sjogren's syndrome. Clinical interests include botanical management of xerostomia and modified catechins for herpes simplex virus.

His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a cohesive research trajectory in nanomedicine-based antiviral solutions, with particular emphasis on Long COVID therapeutics and respiratory viral infections using innovative nanoformulation approaches.
