Stephen Hall

Stephen Hall is an Associate Professor at the Department of Solid Mechanics, Faculty of Engineering, Lund University, and a LINXS fellow active in Heritage Science Working Groups 2 (Conservation) and 4 (Quantitative Methods). Previously, he served as a permanent researcher ("Chargé de Recherche") with CNRS at Laboratoire 3SR in Grenoble, France.

His academic background includes a PhD in Geophysics from the University of Leeds, UK, followed by postdoctoral research in 4D seismic imaging at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.

Dr. Hall specializes in experimental characterization of material deformation mechanisms using advanced full-field measurement techniques. His work integrates:

• X-ray, neutron, and ultrasonic tomography for 3D volumetric analysis
• Digital image correlation and 3D diffraction methods
• Elastic wave propagation studies for mechanical property characterization

Research emphasizes micro-scale origins of deformation, coupled processes in materials, and elastic anisotropy modeling through seismic/ultrasonic data.

His major recognition includes a Marie-Curie individual Fellowship. He directs Lund's 4D-Imaging Lab x-ray tomography facility and maintains active involvement with the European Spallation Source (ESS) and MAXIV projects.
