Stephen Engblom is a Lecturer in Real Estate Development and Design at UC Berkeley's College of Environmental Design. He brings over two decades of global experience in urban design, advising cities and developers on urban infill and regeneration projects across scales.
He holds a Master of Architecture from Rice University and a BA in Architecture and Urban Studies from Lehigh University. As founder of Engblom Architecture and Planning, he bridges public and private sectors to implement equitable, environmentally sustainable development strategies. Previous leadership positions include Senior Managing Director at CBRE and Executive Vice President at AECOM.
Engblom's research focuses on equitable urban development, resilient city design, and innovative solutions for unhoused communities. His approach integrates real estate economics with participatory design to create inclusive urban spaces. He also develops novel shelter technologies addressing homelessness challenges in California.
As Commissioner for the Port of San Francisco, Engblom contributes to waterfront development decisions. His civic engagement extends to advisory roles focused on sustainable urban growth and housing affordability.
