Stephen Bannister

Stephen Bannister is an Associate Professor (Lecturer) in the Department of Economics and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Public Affairs at the University of Utah. He has held the current positions since July 2019 and August 2024, respectively.

Bannister's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Economic Theory with High Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Utah, which he considers one of the most impactful programs globally for its breadth and depth in scholarship and student development.

His research interests focus on macroeconomics and econometrics, particularly the statistical analysis of time series data. He is especially interested in the historical and empirical role of energy consumption in driving economic development and growth. Bannister emphasizes a commitment to truth in both teaching and research within the field of economics.
