Stephanos Matthaios

Stephanos Matthaios is an Associate Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has held academic positions at the University of Cologne, University of Cyprus, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

• PhD in Classics, University of Göttingen (1998)

His research spans five key areas: Ancient Linguistics, Homeric Scholarship, Ancient Commentaries, Hellenistic Science, and Byzantine Lexicography. His work focuses on text-critical methodologies and intellectual history of classical scholarship.

Publications include two seminal edited volumes on ancient Greek scholarship (2015, 2011) and foundational research on Aristarchian grammar (1999). Key disciplinary trends include diachronic analysis of grammatical concepts and integration of epistemological frameworks in classical studies.
