Stephanie Hofmann

Stephanie Hofmann is a Full-time Professor and Joint Chair in International Relations at the European University Institute (EUI), holding dual appointments in the Department of Political and Social Sciences and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies. She serves as Director of the Europe in the World research area. Her expertise spans global governance, European security, and transatlantic relations. Hofmann earned her PhD in Government from Cornell University (2009), with a dissertation honored by the George McT Kahin Prize.

Research interests include dense governance spaces, multilateralism, crisis management, and cyberspace governance. She has published extensively in top journals like European Journal of International Relations and International Affairs. Current projects focus on EU multilateralism, ad hoc crisis responses, and the future of the internet. Hofmann sits on editorial boards of leading journals and advises institutions like Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik.

Awards include the 2006 George McT Kahin Prize. Her teaching spans global ordering, international organizations, and security theory. She supervises over 20 doctoral students and mentors postdocs like Max Lesch. Hofmann leads interdisciplinary initiatives such as the 'Decentering Eurocentrism' cluster and chairs the John McCain Dissertation Award committee.
