Stephanie Chang is a Professor at the University of British Columbia (UBC) with a joint appointment in the School of Community and Regional Planning (SCARP) and the Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability (IRES). She co-directs the Master of Engineering Leadership (MEL) in Urban Systems program and previously held a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Disaster Management and Urban Sustainability (2004-2013).

Dr. Chang bridges engineering, natural sciences, and social sciences to study urban risk dynamics, disaster recovery, climate change adaptation, and coastal cities. Her work spans empirical analysis of major urban disasters, computer modeling, and economic assessments of risk reduction strategies.
Her most recent research focuses on coastal adaptation strategies, pandemic response economics, and transportation disruptions during disasters. Key trends include interdisciplinary approaches to resilience and vulnerability, with applications in the Salish Sea region and Nova Scotia.
