Stephanie Behm Cross is Associate Professor at Georgia State University's College of Education & Human Development, where she coordinates the Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning program. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Virginia Tech and specializes in urban teacher preparation, critical theories of race, teacher residency models, and third space collaborations.
Her research investigates justice-centered teacher preparation through critical ethnography, examining how residency programs impact teacher retention, critical consciousness, and racial equity. Funded by the Department of Education, her work analyzes institutional structures that perpetuate whiteness in education.
Publications focus on abolitionist teacher residencies, critical whiteness studies, and program redesign for equity. Recent articles explore ecologies of support to prevent moral injury in residencies and institutional barriers to justice-oriented preparation.
Teaching includes undergraduate courses on diversity, oppression in schools, and innovative pedagogies, plus doctoral seminars in urban teacher education and research methods.
