About
Stephan O'Brien is a Researcher affiliated with McGill University since 2018, currently serving as a Research Associate at the Trottier Space Institute. He holds a PhD in Astrophysics from University College Dublin (2018) and a BSc in Physics with Astronomy and Space Science (2014), awarded the Porter Medal. His research focuses on high-energy astrophysics, including VHE blazar studies with VERITAS and calibration work for the HELIX experiment. He has held roles in the VERITAS Time Allocation Committee (2017–2023), serving as Chair from 2020–2023. Notable achievements include the McDonald Institute Postdoctoral Scholar Award (2022) and the VERITAS Trevor Weekes Award (2022), recognizing contributions to astroparticle physics and detector calibration.
His technical expertise spans computational methods, data science, and open-source tools, reflected in his tutorials on programming (C++, Python), containerization (Docker/Apptainer), and Git. O'Brien's work bridges experimental astrophysics with advanced data analysis techniques, emphasizing collaborative projects like the VERITAS and HELIX collaborations.
