Stephan Klaus

Stephan Klaus is the Scientific Administrator of the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO) and an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Born in 1963, he holds a PhD and habilitation in mathematics from Mainz University. His academic career includes roles as a research assistant at Bielefeld and Göttingen Universities, and as a Privatdozent at Mainz University. He has led the MFO's scientific administration since 2011, overseeing programs, grants (exceeding €15M), and publications like Oberwolfach Reports and Preprints.

Research interests span topology, geometry, and their applications. He co-leads the Mathe-AG program fostering advanced mathematics education for high-school students since 2006. Administrative roles include managing the MFO library, serving on zbMATH committees, and curating the MiMa museum. Extensive international engagement includes guest professorships at KIT Karlsruhe and collaborations across institutions globally.

Teaching highlights include courses on homotopy theory, geometric evolution equations, and algebraic topology. His service extends to Rotary Club leadership, educational initiatives like Schülerakademie Kinzigtal, and roles in local tourism and health foundations.
