Dr. Stella Basinyi is a Lecturer in Heritage and Digital Creativity at the University of York. She holds a PhD in Heritage Management from Justus Liebig University (Giessen, Germany), an MA in Culture and Environment in Africa from the University of Cologne, and a BA in Archaeology from the University of Botswana. Her career includes post-doctoral research at the University of Cape Town’s Department of Archaeology and HERI, as well as a fellowship at the University of Arkansas’ SAROI program. She is affiliated with UNESCO’s Mentorship Programme for African World Heritage Professionals.
Research focuses on public engagement with cultural heritage, indigenous community involvement, and the intersection of heritage narratives and historical influences. She has expertise in spatial archaeology and museum interpretation. Teaching includes undergraduate modules like 'Presenting Archaeology and Heritage' and postgraduate courses on museum practices.
Awards include the Leica Geosystems Fellowship and Advancing Women Fellowship. She is a member of organizations such as ASAPA, BAAP, AAPA, and ACHS. Her work bridges academic research with community-driven heritage preservation initiatives.
