State University of New York at BuffaloAbout
Stelios T. Andreadis is a SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York. He directs the Cell, Gene and Tissue Engineering Center and previously led the Stem Cells in Regenerative Medicine Training Program funded by NYSTEM. His research bridges fundamental molecular biology with translational biomedical engineering.
- Chemical Engineering PhD (University of Michigan, 1996)
- Mathematics MA (University of Michigan, 1996)
Dr. Andreadis specializes in stem cell bioengineering, vascular/skin/gland tissue regeneration, and biomaterials design. His lab develops lentiviral arrays for pathway analysis in stem cell differentiation and pioneered cell-free vascular grafts commercialized through Angiograft, LLC. Current work focuses on metabolic reprogramming to reverse cellular senescence.
His recent publications emphasize hydrogel-based delivery systems (11/15 recent papers) for applications in neural regeneration, vessel repair, and salivary gland restoration, often involving immune interactions and mitochondrial rejuvenation. Research spans from nanomaterial synthesis to preclinical animal models.
- Whitaker Foundation Young Investigator Award
- NSF CAREER Award
- SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence
- AIMBE & BMES College Fellow
With over $20M in NIH/NSF/NYSTEM funding since 1999, he has mentored 88+ researchers including 28 PhD students whose careers span Harvard/Stanford faculty, pharmaceutical leadership (Merck, Biogen), and academic institutions worldwide. His lab's innovations include self-healing vascular grafts and nanofiber scaffolds for Schwann cell differentiation.
