Stefano Pisa

Stefano Pisa is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications, Sapienza University of Rome. He holds a Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome 'La Sapienza' (1988). His career includes roles as a Researcher (1989) and Associate Professor (2001) at Sapienza. He has coordinated numerous international projects, including ESA, EDA, and EU initiatives, focusing on electromagnetic safety, biomedical radar systems, and microwave applications. Pisa has contributed to the ICNIRP's 'Statement on EMF-emitting New Technologies' (2008) and served on editorial boards and program committees. His research spans electromagnetic interactions with biological systems, microwave dosimetry, UWB radar, and antenna design. Teaching roles include RF Electronic Systems and Biomedical Instrumentation II for M.S. students.

Education: B.E. and Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from Sapienza University of Rome (1985, 1988).

Research interests include numerical modeling of nerve stimulation, SAR evaluation in humans, UWB radar for medical monitoring, microwave amplifier design, and dielectric material characterization. Notable projects include developing through-the-wall radar imaging systems (U-VIEW, 2017–2020) and non-invasive EPR resonators. Pisa has advised on interdisciplinary teams and holds patents related to antenna systems. He collaborates with agencies like ASI and ESA on space-related technologies, such as CubeSat antennas and biomedical sensors for space environments.

Grants and projects include leadership in EU-funded initiatives (e.g., INSPEX, MIRACLE), Italian national projects (PRIN), and ESA/ASI programs. His work bridges engineering and medicine, addressing challenges in health monitoring and electromagnetic safety standards.
