Stefano Castelvecchi is an Associate Professor in the History of Music at the Faculty of Music, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow of St John’s College. His academic career spans institutions including Vassar College, the University of Chicago, and the University of Pavia-Cremona as a visiting professor.
Education:
- Composition studies at Conservatorio Santa Cecilia (Rome)
- Laurea in Humanities from University of Rome I – La Sapienza
- PhD in Music from University of Chicago
His research focuses on 18th- and 19th-century opera, musical dramaturgy, and textual criticism. He has published critical editions of works by Rossini and Verdi, and authored/co-edited significant scholarly works in the field.
His recent article on diegesis and diegetic concepts (2020) reflects his broader interests in musical narrative structures. Publications include Sentimental Opera (CUP, 2013) and co-translation of Basevi’s Verdi analysis (2013).
