About
Stefan Taubert, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Faculty of Medicine. He leads research at the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) within the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR), focusing on transcriptional regulation, metabolic adaptation, and stress responses using Caenorhabditis elegans, mouse models, and cancer cell lines.
- Core Research Areas: Gene regulation, diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer biology, aging, and xenobiotic metabolism.
- Model Systems: C. elegans, mouse, and mammalian cell culture.
His lab investigates how transcriptional regulators like Mediator and nuclear receptors (e.g., NHR-49/HNF4) modulate metabolic and stress response pathways. Recent work highlights the role of MED15 in beta cell maturation and stress resilience in cancer.
Publications reveal a focus on:
- Lipid and glucose homeostasis
- ER stress and unfolded protein response
- Toxin metabolism
- Transcription factor interactions
- Conservation of stress pathways across species
Labs & Collaborations: Affiliated with UBC’s Medical Genetics Graduate Program and Cell and Developmental Biology Graduate Program, the Taubert Lab (CMMT Room 2024) actively recruits graduate students, postdocs, and technical staff. Contact: taubert@cmmt.ubc.ca.
