Stefan Hjort

Stefan Hjort is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, affiliated with its Department of Literature, Area Studies, and European Languages. His research focuses on the Romantic philosophy of nature in Henrik Wergeland's early poetry, contextualized within German Romanticism through works by Novalis, Henrik Steffens, and Friedrich Hölderlin. His academic interests span Romanticism, literature-science intersections, environmental humanities, and psychoanalysis.

Background: Research Assistant at the Centre for Ibsen Studies (2023) and ILOS (2020–21). Holds a Cand.psychol. from the University of Oslo. Current projects include the Norwegian Romantic Nationalisms (NORN) initiative exploring national identity formations in 19th-century literature.

Publications analyze psychoanalytic theory, literary historiography, and Romantic-era discourses across Nordic and German literature. Collaborations include co-authorship on psychoanalytic interpretations of human-nonhuman relationships.
